| Hello Friends, The year 2008 started off with yet another birthday celebration for the King of Rock n Roll. Our Elvis Birthday Bash was at a local Army & Navy unit in Vancouver. We had a live band perform some classic Elvis tunes, along with some guest performers. The 6th Annual Charity Auction - HOUND DOG HUSTLE took place on April 19th, 2008 at The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver, BC. It was an event to raise funds for the BC Guide Dog Services with a Buffet Dinner and Live/Silent Auctions. Entertainment was provided by members of The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of BC. On March 31st, 2007 we celebrated our “2 Year Anniversary Party” and hosted a private viewing of the dvd “Elvis Lives – The 25th Anniversary Concert” Fan club members who were in attendance were able to have their pick of free Elvis merchandise & memorabilia to take home, which was donated to the club by a loyal Elvis fan. Thank You! There was great food, fun games and live music. The Ladner Pioneer May Days was a fun weekend event. On May 25th, 2008 at Memorial Park in Ladner, BC. Elvis entertainment was provided by members of The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of BC. |
The 6th annual Penticton Elvis Festival was held on June 27-29th, 2008. It was a great festival with our very own Ben Klein taking First Place as the winner in the Professional Category. Congratulations !! Not only was Ben the Pro Winner, but he was also a Pre-Qualifying winner for the EPE Inc. sponsored “Ultimate Elvis Contest” Over 70,000 fans gathered in Memphis in August to celebrate Elvis Week 2008. During the week, twenty-four of the best tribute artists from around the world compete during the event for the title of Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist of 2008. Shawn Klush was the winner for 2008 and was also the Headliner for the Penticton Elvis Festival as well. My Boy ! My Boy! That sure was one heck of a show!! August was a jam packed Elvis month for sure. On the day of his passing, our fan club hosted a huge party at the Old Admiral Pub in Burnaby, BC to honour the King of Rock n’ Roll. It was a full house indeed Elvis fans enjoyed performances by local ETA’s Wally Tiemer, Brian Simpson and Bruce J. Memphis. There were prize giveaways and classic Elvis movies were shown on the TV screens. Then on August 31st, 2008 marked the 51st Anniversary of when Elvis Presley performed here in Vancouver at Empire Stadium. There was a huge celebration concert held at the PNE with Red Robinson as the host and the top three ETA’s from the Penticton Elvis Festival putting on a fantastic show. Afterwards, they were all available to sign autographs. Our own fan club members were also there dressed up in Elvis attire to help sell the Elvis merchandise and concert posters that were printed for this special occasion. I Would like to say "Hi!" to our Elvis friends on the East Coast, Kathy in Collingwood, Pete in Etobicoke and Wade in Vernon Bridge. Thanks for keeping the Spirit of Elvis Alive!!
